Academic Support Services

Under the umbrella of the Academic Support Services, LCC provides the personal, academic, and instructional support necessary to ensure student success. Support services are easily available to all students free of charge and include library resources, tutoring support for all courses, skill building, remediation, counseling, career assessment, transfer assistance, and cultural enrichment opportunities. All Academic Support Services are housed in the Bowman Building, and all students are encouraged to take advantage of the services as an essential part of their educational experiences at Lamar Community College.

Learning Support Services

Located in the Bowman Building, LCC’s Learning Support Services provide tutoring and academic assistance to LCC students free of charge. Tutoring is available at The Tutoring Lab in the Bowman building, or via D2L through electronic service TutorMe. For more information about the services provided, students are encouraged to contact the Tutoring Coordinator, Annissia Forney at 719.336.1541.

Lamar Community College is committed to promoting its students’ and employees’ emotional and physical well-being. LopesCares is a comprehensive initiative designed to offer support, education, and programming that enhance campus-wide well-being and safety. Through LopesCares, students and staff can access supportive resources and/or report behaviors of concern for appropriate intervention.
LopesCares offers compassionate assistance to students facing emotional or mental health challenges. Through brief counseling services, our behavioral health counselor provides support and guidance while connecting students to additional resources or referrals for extended care. The program also provides resources on drug and alcohol awareness to empower individuals to navigate challenges and make their well-being a priority.

Skill Building

Based on assessment recommendations or personal choice, students may begin classes at any stage of academic preparation, with instruction support in reading writing, math, and study strategies. College-level courses, taught with substantial support, are always the preferred choice for students at LCC. However, Developmental Skills courses are also taught as credit-bearing courses. Note that Developmental Courses do not apply toward satisfying degree or certificate requirements. See Academic Affairs , Grades and Grade Reports for more information.

Disability Services

It is recognized that to maximize opportunities for success, some students must receive benefits from reasonable accommodations in response to documented disabilities. To arrange for such accommodations, please provide documentation and request services at least three weeks before the time services are needed. For more information, contact Inclusive Higher Education at 719.336.1533.
