Equipment Operator I Certificate

This certificate program prepares students to pursue professional career opportunities in the construction industry, specifically as it pertains to heavy equipment operation. The curriculum begins with an understanding of the equipment that students will operate, maintenance and safety, and engine operations. Coursework will include the use of simulators to get students familiar with the controls of each machine, as well as a general understanding of productivity and efficiency in operating heavy equipment. Students will then move into the operation of real equipment to further build competency in operation.
Learning Outcomes:
Certificate completers will be able to:
- Effectively demonstrate an understanding of equipment safety and maintenance.
- Understand controls and operation of excavators, skid steers, and front-end loaders.
- Understand basic site layout and grading.
