Admission Criteria:

Admission into the A.A.S. Nursing degree program is competitive, based on GPA in prerequisites, entrance exam score, and program capacity.

Basic Skills Assessment

Students must meet math placement scores that would allow them into the MAT 1240 level course or have completed MAT 0250 or higher with a C or better. See https://lamarcc.edu/admission/placement-testing/ for cut scores.

Note:

All BIO-prefixed courses must be completed within 7 years before entry. Acceptance into the Nursing Program is contingent upon attaining a minimum grade of “C” for each prerequisite course, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above in prerequisite courses, and a minimum score on the entrance exam and is subject to capacity.

BIO 2101 - Human Anatomy & Physiology I: GT-SC1 Credits: 4(3-1)
ENG 1021 - English Composition I: GT-CO1 Credits: 3(3-0)
PSY 2440 - Human Growth and Development: GT-SS3 Credits: 3(3-0)
HPR 1010 - Dietary Nutrition Credits: 1(1-0)
OR
HWE 1050 - Human Nutrition: 3(3-0). This course is preferred to students who plan to pursue a Bachelor’s of Nursing.

NOTE: The above courses are prerequisites for admission to the first year of the nursing program.

BIO 2102 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II: GT-SC1 Credits: 4(3-1)
BIO 2116 - Pathophysiology Credits: 4(3-1)
This course must be taken prior to entering the second year of the nursing program. This course requires prerequisite of BIO 2101 and BIO 2102.
NUR 1006 - Medical Surgical Nursing Concepts Credits: 7(3.4-.3-3.3)
NUR 1009 - Fundamentals of Nursing Credits: 6(2-2-2)
NUR 1012 - Basic Concepts of Pharmacology Credits: 2(2-0)
NUR 1050 - Maternal-Child Nursing Credits: 6(3.3-0.7-2)
MAT 1120 - Math for Clinical Calculations Credits: 3(3-0)
This course may be taken prior to admission to the program or during the first (1st) semester of the first year of the program.

Optional: (4 credits)

NUR 1069 - Transition into Practical Nursing Credits: 4(2-2)
This course is required only for students who desire to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) to obtain licensure as a practical nurse. All pre-requisite and first year course work must be completed prir to application for PN licensure.

NUR 2002 - Transition from LPN to Professional Nursing Credits: 3 (2-.5-.5)
Licensed Practical Nurses and students who exited the first year of a nursing program who did not complete NUR 1050 or an equivalent course, must complete this course prior to entry into the second year of the nursing program.
