This certificate is essentially designed to provide the foundation for the intermediate and advanced welding certificates.
As a result of completing the Welding Basic Program at Lamar Community College, students will be able to:
1. Define and adhere to proper safety procedures in welding environments.
2. Illustrate knowledge of the proper use and applications of welding equipment according to industry standards.
3. Perform basic Gas Metal Arc Welding/Flux Core Arc Welding (GMAW/FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) welding procedures from flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions according to industry standards.
4. Illustrate and apply professional employability skills desired by potential employers in the welding field, such as the importance of being timely, quality weld production and effective communication techniques.
